Following a successful season in 2021 where Bayleigh Chaviers was a lead factor in UMF Valur Reydarfjördur gaining promotion to Division One she has been re-signed to the club for the 2022 season.
We caught up with Bayleigh ahead of her second professional season:
You have played in Iceland before, is there a reason you were interested in returning to the country to play soccer?
I really enjoyed playing in Iceland last summer. The team and coach were all amazing. I made a lot of great memories with them.
What are your hopes and goals for this season (both individually and as a team)?
Goals for the team would be for us to play together and to do as well as we did last year, hopefully advancing to the next league. Goals individually would be to continue to improve on my technical skills and get to know the new players on the team.
You know your coach well, having worked with him previously, what is it about his coaching style that you enjoy?
I like that I can easily have a two way conversation with him. He listens and is very open to any concerns that we may have during games or practices. He also is open to giving feedback on what we can do better.
This will be your second contract in two years since being connected with PSC – how has your experience with PSC been during this time?
It’s been really good. Simon responds quickly to any needs/questions I may have and is checking in on us throughout the season.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or acknowledge at this time?
I would like to thank my family for always supporting and encouraging me continue to follow my dreams of playing professional soccer. I would like to thank my trainer/coaches back home during my off season that helped me to improve my soccer skills and to get back in shape for the season. I would also like to thank my boyfriend, Branndon for continuing to support me and being my biggest fan. Lastly, I would like to thank my coach, Kalli and PSC for giving me the opportunity to play another season.
All her at PSC wish Bayleigh the very best ahead of the 2022 season!
