PSC recognizes the vast amount of soccer talent in the USA and the lack of playing opportunities and regular coaching for them to take their game to the next level. This is the reason behind developing our Pro Soccer Combines, tours and Residential program to give players the opportunity to develop and showcase themselves to professional clubs in Europe, America and Asia.
Each PSC combine is run over three days as this gives players enough of a chance to showcase themselves to attending coaches. Our combines do not involve fitness testing, passing or dribbling drills as these are not a true reflection of a players ‘game’ ability. Our combines focus simply on game-realistic situations such as small sided and full sided games.
Each day you will be placed in a team which is coached by one of the attending coaches so you will have direct interaction, being coached, by the professional coaches in attendance.
Following the event players will receive feedback via email with an evaluation from the coaches in attendance.
Please see below for some of our most regularly asked questions
“Does the registration fee include hotel and transport?”
The registration fee does not include hotel and transport. Players are responsible for providing their own accommodation and their own transport during the event. At all our combines we offer a discounted hotel package to assist players in making the event more affordable. Specific details of each location’s hotel package will be posted on the individual tryout pages which can be found here.
“Can I pay cash and sign up on the day?”
We cannot accept payment on the day at the fields as we schedule the event, including players and teams, 48 hours in advance of game one to ensure the event runs smoothly. It would be logistically difficult to plan an event whilst not being sure exactly how many players are going to turn up. Also, our combines sell out on average five weeks in advance therefore there will be no availability by day one. We recommend players sign up early to avoid disappointment.
“When is the deadline to pay?”
Registration for our combines close three days before the event starts. However we usually sell out well in advance of day one. Once we are sold out we cannot accept any players regardless of their resume. Our goalkeeper, forward and center midfield spots are always first to sell out so we recommend players in those positions sign up as early as possible.
“What is your policy if playing time is lost due to weather or Force majeure”
If two or three days of playing time are lost at an event then players will be offered a full credit to any PSC combine in the next 12 month period. If just one day is lost the event will continue as normal.
“What should I bring to the combine?”
Players will be provided with a playing jersey each day, and soccer balls. Please note all players are responsible for bringing their own training gear, cleats, shinguards, tape, etc.
“Do players actually get signed from PSC Combines?”
We have helped over 200 players sign or trial professionally in Europe and America in the last 3 years. since January 2016 we have announced 70 success stories alone – you can read about these here.
“Can I bring a family member / friend to stay in the hotel with me?”
Yes you can, however you will need to register and pay for an extra hotel package. For example if the hotel package is $200 you will need to pay $400 to share the room with a friend or family member. If the rooms are triple occupancy you would need to pay $600 in the above example.
“Can I have a room to myself?”
Yes – but you will need to register and pay for an extra hotel package. For example if the hotel package is $200 you will need to pay $400 for single occupancy. If the rooms are triple occupancy you would need to pay $600 in the above example.
“Can you pick me up from the airport?”
Some of our combines include shuttles from the airport at an added cost. If the location you are attending does not state that airport shuttles are included then you will be responsible for your own transport from the airport. PSC has partnered with Uber to offer our combine participants the cheapest transportation available. All first time users of the app will receive a free $15 towards their first ride to further reduce costs. uberX is now 30% cheaper than a taxi and will take all of the stress out of traveling during the combine at the lowest possible price. Download the app today and use Promo Code: uberPSCSOCCER to redeem your free $15 ride.
“What kind of contacts do PSC have? Is it just with European teams?”
PSC have an extensive contact list from America, Europe and Asia so we will look to use all contacts at our disposal to find the right fit for the right player. We have worked with numerous teams and top professional players from all over the world. Since January 2016 we have placed over 70 players in 15 leagues across 7 countries and 3 continents.
“Am I too old to sign my first professional contract?”
Your age will not be a problem in signing a professional contract if you are good enough. The following is a list of players who signed their first ever professional contracts after the age of 23 through our Pro Soccer Combines or Showcase Tours: –
Kyle O’Brien (aged 25) Signed with Pembroke Athleta of Maltese Premier League
Jared Bennett (aged 24) signed with AC Kajaani of Finland First division:
Shawn Nicklaw (aged 23) Signed with HB Koge of Danish Premier League
Troy Hernandez (aged 25) signed with Wilmington Hammerheads of USL Pro
Stefano Baez (Aged 25) Signs with GMFF in Sweden:
Arron Patrick (aged 25) Signed with Wilmington Hammerheads of USL Pro
“What are the age limits for your combines?”
We accept for our mens combines players aged 15 and above as long as players are comfortable playing in an open age environment.
“Can you help me get into a college team?”
We often have college coaches attend our events as they are aware of the talent involved however we do not specifically aid players with college placements. As a company we focus on placing players on professional contracts/ teams. We do however have contacts with college scholarship companies and can put you in contact with them. Please contact info@pscltd.co.uk if you are looking for information on this.
“Does attending a combine or showcase affect my college eligibility?”
We get lots of questions from players and parents about college eligibility. Being a part of the combine or showcase will not affect your college eligibility. College players are allowed to tryout as part of an amateur team singly or individually against professional athletes according to NCAA rules. If a player is offered a contract to play professionally then they will have to decide whether to continue their college career or begin a professional career.
“How is this different to other combines in the US?”
Our pro soccer tryouts differ from others as we bring a greater amount of clubs from Europe and USA to events to scout players. We average 7 clubs in attendance at each event from across the world.
Another huge advantage we have over our competitors is that we are a globally recognized soccer agency and professional clubs and coaches trust our judgment. If we host a combine this week and a club does not find what they are looking for, we will recommend a goalkeeper to them from a previous event, or from a future tryout that the club will not be attending.
So, when you tryout at a PSC combine you are not just trying out in front of the attending coaches, but every club who has attended a PSC combine, or is within our network. This is how and why we are the most successful at what we do.
Also, we not only place players professionally, but if we feel you need further development or are not at the level to play professionally, we provide individual feedback to each player as well as offering further training opportunities where possible.
“What happens if I get injured leading up to the event or my circumstances change and I cant attend?”
Any player who is unable to attend due to injury will be offered a free place at any of our future combines. This credit will last for 18 months. Alternatively they can find a replacement player to take their place. The replacement player must submit a resume to PSC and be accepted prior to the combine. If a player does not notify us of their non-attendance 72 hours before day one he/she will forfeit their combine entrance fee.
“What happens once the combine is finished?”
After the combine a number of results can occur. However it is impossible to give a definitive answer as every single player and club is an individual scenario so the process is always different.
For example, Oscar Jimenez was seen by Coach David Irving of the Tulsa Roughnecks at our San Diego combine. Coach Irving was so impresses he offered to sign him as he walked off the field on day three. Read more here.
Taylor Morgan was seen at an event by Ostersunds who were very keen to tie him down asap and the deal was completed within 2-3 days. This has happened with a number of players from our combines.
In other cases it has taken a few weeks, and in one case it even took 6 months for the club to be able to free up the funds to sign a player who was, fortunately, still available by that point and signed 6 months after attending the combine.
Our Agency recommendations can come at any time as well. Let’s say you attend a combine, impress our agency staff and convince us you are capable of playing at the professional level right now, we will recommend you to clubs who have attended previous combines looking for clubs in your position. This process can take a few weeks, or even months.
Another example is a club may like you but feel that you’re not quite as good as the players in their squad in that position so they don’t sign you. Then 2 weeks later, one of those players is injured, or leaves the club, then the club will reach out and see if you are still available.
This is how professional soccer works. There is no single blueprint, every players path to the professional game is unique and individual.
If you perform well at the combine, and convince us you are able to play at the professional level, we will keep your details on file, and should a club contact us in need of a player in your position we will send your information to them. This was the case with Lewis Ellis, who signed 3 months after the PSC event after a club contacted us looking for a central midfielder. Read his story, and how unpredictable professional soccer can be here.
“Does PSC assist with Visa applications?”
We are more than happy to assist with the visa application. Once payment for our event has been completed our staff will send out a visa invite letter for the event of your choice within 3 working days.
Please note; we want you to be aware before paying that a visa invite letter sent via email is the only visa assistance our staff will offer. We will not call, write, email to the embassy directly or look into any actions you need to take. If you are not sure of the process we recommend contacting a professional legal service who will be able to assist. We will not be able to assist any further than the emailed visa invite letter. If you do not think this will be enough for you to get into the country we recommend you do not sign up or that you pursue legal advice regarding the acquisition of a visa. Due to limited spaces at our events, payment is non-refundable and if for any reason you are unable to attend (even in the case of a visa being denied) we will only be able to offer a 12 month credit to future events and not a refund.
Can I get transport to and from the fields each day of the combine?
Some of our hotel packages come with shuttles to and from the field, if the location you are attending does not state that field shuttles are included then you will be responsible for your own transport to and from the fields each day. If you have not registered for a hotel package you are responsible for all of your own transport.
