PSC are proud to announce another Women’s signing in Iceland as Heidi Giles signs with Fjardabyggd / Hottur / Leiknir in the Icelandic 2nd Division.
The club narrowly missed out on promotion to the 1st division on the final day of the 2019 season and are looking to go one better in 2020 season. Head Coach Bjorgvin Gunnarsson reached out to PSC Women’s Director Simon Deeley in search of players for the 2020 season and took no time in deciding Heidi would be a good fit for the team.
PSC Director, Deeley, was delighted with the signing “I was disappointed last season to see they did not get promoted as we have a close relationship with the club and with Bjorgvin. Hopefully by signing Heidi they can go one better this season! She has the ability, and has demonstrated the right character and attitude throughout the whole process, she has been a dream to work with so I have high hopes for her this year and will keep a close eye on her!”
The half Canadian, half Danish, central defender graduated from the University of Mobile recently having been awarded scholar athlete of the year for the past two seasons. We caught up with Heidi before she went off to join her new teammates to find out what she through about the opportunity:
“I am looking forward to experiencing new aspects of soccer and having my soccer knowledge be broadened. A professional career has been something I have wanted to pursue ever since I started soccer when I was 2. Whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to do after school I always said, “go pro”. Soccer is my life and it is everything to me. My hope and goal for the team is that I can help push every player to be their best. I want to help the team accomplish their goals and mission.”
Like all players, amateur and pro, 2020 has been a difficult year to keep fit. Heidi explained how she was able to get her training in close to home: “I was extremely grateful to have a soccer field near my house. This allowed me to get out and be able to train every day, sometimes by myself, sometimes my amazing family members came out and helped me. I also was really grateful to have an amazing Coach and mentor train one on one with me when the restrictions were lifted enough for us to be able to train.”
When asked about her relationship with PSC she was quick to compliment the process “I could not be any happier with my experience with PSC. Simon Deeley was incredibly fast with responses and made sure I had all my information before I said yes to anything. He was incredibly patient with me, as well. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for an agent. They helped me land an amazing deal and I cannot wait to work with them again in the future.”
She also took the time to acknowledge those who have helped in her journey thus far; “The people that deserve a thank you that is far beyond the words the English dictionary could put together is my family. The support my parents and siblings have given me is out of this World. I NEVER have to doubt whether or not they have my back. No matter what happens or where in the World I go they always have nothing but encouraging words for me. They are my ultimate rock. This includes my Coach, Esad Elkaz, he has basically been my second dad and raised me in the soccer World. I would also like to thank my University of Mobile Coach, Brian Person. He helped improve me all through University and is still helping me follow my plans to go pro even after I have graduated.”
