Kyra Taylor: Signed with Fylkir (Iceland, Premier League)

Women’s Pro Soccer Tryout Participant Kyra Taylor Signs in Icelandic Premier League

After a successful performance at our Women’s Los Angeles tryout in January, Kyra Taylor has signed in the Icelandic Premier League. Kyra becomes the second player PSC have placed in the Icelandic Pepsi (Premier) League.

Taylor, who currently plays for the University of California, Riverside, will sign for the Icelandic club team Fylkir under Coach Sigurdur Reynisson, aka “Siggi” on a one year contract.

Coach Siggi attended the LA tryout and was so impressed by Taylor’s standout performance that Fylkir’s coaching staff extended a contract offer to her after day one of the three day tryout.

“I saw immediately that she was a player good enough to play in the top tier league here in Iceland” Siggi said. “I first noticed her athleticism and aggression in winning the ball which really impressed me. Those qualities of hers made me look even closer. When doing so I noticed she was also comfortable on the ball, not afraid of playing forward and making big passes.”

With Taylor’s contractual commitment already locked in for the Icelandic Premier League’s top division, Fylkir’s coaching staff is willing to wait for Taylor to graduate from UCR in June before bringing her over to Europe.

“It’s getting closer and my brain is starting to realize it’s getting closer cause when I signed it seemed so far away,” Taylor said. “It just seems so surreal and I don’t think it’s going to hit me until I get on the plane and start packing.”

Taylor is excited to be joining a new group of players in Iceland and cannot wait to undergo a new perspective of soccer.

“I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and just getting back into that competitive environment and of course experience a different style of soccer,” Taylor said. “That’s what I’m most looking forward to.”

“PSC was very open and honest, they ran everything very smoothly and it was a really good experience for me.”

PSC Women’s Director Simon Deeley said Taylor was a real professional throughout the recruitment process and was an overall joy to work with.

As well as being standout at the combine, Kyra has been a real delight to work with through this process. With her performances in LA, and her professionalism during contract talks, I am not just looking forward to seeing how she does this season, but hopefully many more to come in Europe’s top tiers.”
